Queen Margherita
Nestled in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood is one of the cities newest pizza places, Queen Margherita. Calling it a "pizza place" is really putting things rather causally though. Queen Margherita is rustic countryside Italian meets cozy chic architectural salvage when it comes to decor and atmosphere. The focal point of the restaurant is a wood-burning pizza oven in the back right corner that was built from pumice stones made with actual ash from Mt. Vesuvius (located on the Bay of Naples, Italy).
The menu is small but diverse. There are a few antipasti items (salumi, olives, cheese), a couple salads, 10 pizzas, and dessert. They've got a few Italian beers on tap and a good-sized Italian wine list. We started off with an assortment of marinated olives and a caprese salad. Next we split the Patata Pizza (yukon gold potatoes, rosemary, pepperoni, gorgonzola, and extra virgin olive oil). For dessert we shared the house made chocolate gelato and tiramisu. We washed down the pizza with a couple of ice cold draft Peroni beers.
Everything was made with excellent care and purpose. There are only about 30 seats in the restaurant and they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. I highly recommend this little spot to anyone looking for simple well-made rustic Italian fare.
