Mobile Foodie Survival Kit

Sarah Simmsthings

These kits are perfect for traveling! I would take one to Egypt or Tahiti or maybe more commonly.... my next door neighbor's house.  I could be all alone on this one but often when I am cooking at other people's homes I find that I need just a pinch of a particular spice that, of course, happens to be the ONE spice that that person does not have.

I truly fell in love with these survival kits when I researched who made them...

Each kit is created in New York City by a team of developmentally and other mentally challenged adults, under the supervision of professionals trained in working with the mentally challenged, at the Manhattan packaging and assembly workshop of the nonprofit AHRC. AHRC, a nationwide 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, was founded to support developmentally disabled children and adults.

Each Mobile Foodie Survival Kit includes the following USDA-certified organic spices and herbs: basil, cayenne, rosemary, ground cloves, curry, dill, granulated garlic, ginger, mustard powder, nutmeg, onion powder, oregano, paprika, pepper, and thyme; plus sea salt, wasabi powder, soy sauce and Tabasco sauce.

There are also three cuisine-specific kits: Mexican Essentials, Thai Essentials, and Indian Essentials. These kits are $20 each and the larger, Survival Kit, is $30.
