EAT Green

Sarah Simmsfood

With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner there are a ton of ways to make your food green. And no, I am not going to rant about "green" in terms of Eco-friendliness....I am going to provide you with ways to make your food (and drinks) literally green. Time to get festive!

The Food Network had some fab ideas:
  • Green Hummus - simply blend avocado into your classic hummus recipe and serve with celery sticks and cucumber slices for dipping
  • Spinach Raviolis - you can find these in your local grocery store and serve them with pesto sauce (add a bit of cream for decadence)
  • Emerald Eggs - add watercress and scallions to your favorite deviled egg recipes and pop the mixture into a food processor...super easy
  • Irish Champagne Cocktail - add a splash of Creme de Menthe to your sparkling wine of choice (could work as a breathe freshner?)
  • Shamrock Shake - use mint chocolate chip ice cream and milk
  • Green Eyes Cocktail - midori, rum, pineapple juice, coconut cream, lime juice and serve on the rocks
You can also just try to use all of the fruits and vegetables that are already green like: green bell pepper, brussel sprouts, lettuce, snow peas, spinach, asparagus, artichoke, bok choy, avocado, sprouts, celery, broccoli, broccolini, cucumber, haricot vert, green tomato, kiwi, honeydew melon, green grapes, lime, pear, granny smith apple, and gooseberries. ( I might have missed a few...)

And for those of you that like to get festive without eating "green" it is time for some irish favorites like corned beef and cabbage, soda bread, potatoes, stew, stout beer, and irish coffee.

And Finally... some fantastic Irish Toasts to use during your St. Patty's Day Celebration:

"May your home always be too small to hold all your friends. God is good, but never dance in a small boat. "

"Here's to a long life and a merry one.A quick death and an easy one.A pretty girl and an honest one. A cold pint-- and another one!"

"May the hinges of our friendship never grow rusty."

"May misfortune follow you the rest of your life, and never catch up."

...Cheers!
