Mast Brothers Chocolate

Sarah Simmsfood

Each bar of chocolate is made in small batches by hand from bean to bar by Rick and Michael Mast. Rick has loads of culinary experience from places in New York (Gramercy Tavern / Soho House / Manhattan Chocolate Factory) and Martha's Vineyard (The Outermost Inn). He is also a classically trained musician - he plays piano and banjo. Michael worked in independent film and television in New York until he decided to combine his hobby of chocolate-making, love of photography, and love of travel. They are effortlessly cool with their artsy beards and lanky frames. They converted a 100-year old factory in the "village" of Williamsburg into a magical "Willy Wonka Land" for homemade chocolate bars. They get all of their beans from small family farms in Madagascar, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, and Ecuador.

Not only is their chocolate amazing but so is their packaging. They wrap each bar
in gorgeously crafted art paper which adds a special grown-up touch to each piece of
artisanal chocolate. From their website you can purchase an assortment of ten bars (2.5 oz each) including: Single Origin Madagascar 72% cacao, Dark Chocolate with Fleur de Sel, Dark Chocolate with Almonds and Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate with Cocoa Nibs, and two of their seasonal selections. All of their chocolate has complex notes of citrus and nuts and bars sell for $7-$10 each.
