(Happy) 90th Anniversary Kitchen Aid Mixer

Sarah Simmsthings

This year marks the 90th Anniversary of Kitchen Aid. To celebrate this occasion they have debuted a special model in Candy Apple Red with a 325-watt motor, 5 quart glass bowl with handle, pouring spout, and measurement markings. It also includes the classic amenities like 10-speed slide control, flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip. Besides the fantastic retro color I love that it has a glass bowl versus the standard stainless steel bowl - so much easier to see what you are mixing. This model goes for $399 and can be found easily on the Kitchen Aid website.

I am the proud owner of a grape colored artisan mixer that acts as the central design piece to my kitchen. These mixers are so much more than just a chef's (or novice cook's) best friend, they are key to setting the mood in your kitchen. Forget that it kneads, mixes, mashes, rolls fresh pasta noodles, grinds meat, makes ice cream, and can stuff sausages ...think of it as an art piece and a way to define yourself at home.

A close friend of mine (also one of the best bakers I know) never has less than 3 of them lined up in a row on her counter. I love how they add a punch of pastel color to her rustic french farm kitchen. They represent a little piece of her and the sugary wonders she creates using them.
